50 MHz PLANNING

During 2006 the Project was able to obtain a Heathkit Linear Amplifier that has been modified for 50 MHz QRO operation and a 6M7JHV antenna. To date we have not had a chance to use this equipment but we are hoping to use it in a nearby country at the earliest opportunity.

432 MHz PLANNING

During 2007 we hope to add 432 MHz EME operation on at least some of the trips. Last year we purchased two of the new M-Squared 432EME-12 Yagis along with splitters and a masthead preamp and have already made a few contacts including the first 432 EME QSO between Mozambique and Switzerland. We need more antennas and more power and will improve the 432 system as Project funds permit.

OTHER AFRICAN OPPORTUNITIES

Around South Africa we have a number of DXCC entities in the area including Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland. Southern Africa has some great tourist destinations such as Kruger National Park, accommodation for you and the family is affordable and in the neighbouring countries an amateur radio license is easy to obtain. ZS6JR has two mobile telescoping towers and some great antennas and other equipment available for HF DXpeditions and the EME FOR AFRICA project will be happy to help you out with antennas and other equipment for WSJT EME. The thing we lack most is operators. In the coming weeks we will add some of the best tourist destinations in the area along with a few family (and amateur radio) friendly places to stay to the AFRICA LINKS. If you are planning to take a vacation down this way in the near future, why don’t you take a few minutes to browse through them.
